Sleep issues

The last few weeks, Rowan has been sleeping with us. Used to be that I'd put him to bed in his room, where he would sleep for a few hours, and exactly around 2-30 a.m., he'd call out for me wanting to come into our bed. Finally, I got tired of the nightly wakings and took the easy way out – started putting him to bed in our room, where he, and therefore me, would snooze peacefully until the morning.
Now we feel like he needs to be in his own bed and so begins the odyssey all over again. He's almost 3 and still rarely sleeps through the night.

I suppose it's my own fault. I should have stuck to my guns and never brought him into bed with us. Let him cry it out till he slept through the night. But the crying it out thing never sat right with me. Plus I get so tired at day's end and I just want us all to SLEEP.

ZZZZZZZZZ. Oops, sorry, I just dozed off for a bit there..

Let's face it though – which kid is going to choose sleeping all alone in the dark in his own room, with all those monsters under the bed and what not, when he can snuggle up with his Mommy and Daddy?

Tonight's a tossup. Will he sleep in his bed or ours. Depends on how tired I am by 9 pm.

I feel your pain. I was a zombie for 2 years with the twins until I tried a gentle method I saw on a random Canadian tv show (off the air now and I can't recall the name).

Thankfully, I was wiser and of course, knew the tricks to use and tendencies to avoid with my toddler now.

However, remember that there's always something...if it's not sleep, it's feeding, it's speech, it's gross motor, terrible 2s, toilet training etc...

Do what YOU need without toturing HIM. It can be done with a lot of patience, guidance, love, consistency and minimal if no tears. It's not too late!

Good luck.

"Zombie" is an apt description! I feel each family has to come up with their own formula for sleep - often thru trial and error.
Plus as you rightly said, if it's not sleep, it will be something else. Thanks! Hopefully I'll be wiser the next time around!
