Puerto Rico

Our annual winter migration to warmer climes proved to be a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. We left behind the heavy, dark, cold and oppressive (you get my drift - bad pun unintended) Northeast winter and flew to Aguadilla from where we proceeeded to Kedar's family friends' home in Mayaguez. Their house is actually on the side of a little hill, surrounded by mango trees, incredibly scented flowering tress of some sort and lush tropical vegetation. A wall of glass windows overlooks lush mountains and sunrises. We spent a few lovely evenings sitting on the balcony and basking in the sheer difference of place. The coqui ( a kind of tiny frog) came out to play often and we could hear their pretty chirps when we slept and at daybreak. (Imagine, this is a place where frogs sound like nightingales.) Seeing Rowan toddling about carelessly barefoot and in a clothing-optional sort of way was fun. He seemed to blossom in the warm days and tropical nights. Then we went off to San Juan for a week of beach fun. We stayed at the lovely San Juan Marriott (highly recommended) in Condado. We couldn't get enough of Old San Juan. And for a little Indian like me, fresh coconut water and Piraguas – a rare treat.
